Button settings

Early access

The ShotPay button sits on your product pages, in the popup that opens when a shopper adds something to their cart, on your cart page, and — where your store allows it — on your checkout page. A shopper who clicks it goes to ShotPay's hosted checkout and comes back to your store when the plan opens.

On a product page the button opens a plan for that one product, with the quantity read at the moment of the click, so a shopper who changes it before clicking gets the total they chose. Everywhere else it opens a plan for the whole cart, matching the subtotal shown beside it.

Everything below lives in the Settings tab of the ShotPay panel in your BigCommerce admin. A preview beside the form updates as you type, and saved changes appear on your storefront immediately.

CSS selector Only when Position is set to a custom selector.
Insert After the element Before the element, after it, or inside it at the end.

The palette and the ShotPay mark's shape are not configurable — that is the point of shipping a button rather than a stylesheet.

Position

Position applies to the product page only. On the cart, the popup and checkout the button goes beside your existing checkout button, in the same place your other express-checkout buttons appear.

If the spot you pick is missing from a page — a theme that lays the product out differently, or a selector that matches nothing — the button falls back to below the add-to-cart form. A position setting can move the button; it cannot lose it.

On the cart and the popup, a theme we do not recognise means no button on that surface rather than a button in the wrong place. Your product pages are unaffected.

Products with options show the button once an option is chosen

On a product with size, colour, or other option controls, the price is a property of the variant rather than the product, so the button waits until the shopper's choices name one. Change an option and the button re-prices for the new variant; pick one that is out of stock, or leave a choice unmade, and it steps aside until the selection is sellable again.

A variant priced outside the range layaway supports shows no button, even where another variant of the same product does.

The checkout page

The checkout button is off until you turn it on, and the setting is listed only on stores where it can work — reaching BigCommerce's checkout needs the Modify Checkout Content permission, and not every store plan allows it. If you do not see Checkout page under Where the button appears, this store is one of those; the rest of the buttons are unaffected.

Checkout pages hold card details, so BigCommerce checks our script against a fingerprint before a browser will run it — a PCI DSS 4.0 requirement. ShotPay registers the new fingerprint with your store ahead of every release, so your checkout button keeps working across our updates with nothing for you to do.

What a cart plan cannot cover

A cart containing a gift certificate or a custom item shows no button — those cannot be carried onto the order the plan creates in your admin. A very large cart (over 50 lines) is also left out.

Turning it off

Show the ShotPay button switched off removes the button from your whole storefront while leaving the store connected. To turn off one place and keep the rest, use the checkboxes under Where the button appears instead. Either way, your dashboard and any plans already running are untouched.

To disconnect the store entirely, see Install and connect.

Not the same as the ShotPay Button SDK

The ShotPay Button is the drop-in button a developer mounts by hand on any storefront. On BigCommerce the plugin mounts and configures that same button for you, which is why none of it involves code.
